Introduction to Electroneum
Electroneum was founded in 2017 by Richard Ells, a British serial-entrepreneur who also owns businesses such as Retortal, AnyTask.com and SiteWizard. It is a layer 1 EVM-compatible blockchain which focused on providing a payment ecosystem to users in over 190 countries worldwide. It aims to provide an alternative to traditional fiat-based payment methods via mediums such as Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and Apple Pay. Unlike these platforms which charge significant fees for transactions, fees on Electroneum typically cost a fraction of a cent (0.01 USD).
Electroneum transactions take just five seconds to confirm, making it much more suitable for real-time payments than Bitcoin and many of its rivals, which are far slower and more costly to transact with. The launch of Electroneum’s Aurelius blockchain update in 2024 provided a means for developers and organisations to explore and build Web3 solutions to solve real-world problems.
